What is showing up for yourself?

Showing up for yourself is prioritising your mental, emotional and physical health, this is achieved by setting up routines that support and nurture holistic wellbeing in all areas of your life.

A good example of this is having a morning routine, mine involves a cup of coffee dressing up and creating an instagram story.

This ritual signals to me that the day has began, I actually feel like something is missing when I don't follow this routine, the best part of all is, it simply takes me less the 30 minutes to accomplish yet the rewards last the entire day.


How to stay disciplined and consistent

So, how do you master self discipline, you ask!

Since this is no easy task thanks to procrastination, lack of confidence and life taking over at times its an area in life that practice will make perfect .

Like anything in life discipline can be mastered, you have to start by training your mind the art of winning.

Waking up making your bed brushing your teeth and dressing up is success believe it or not, when you make these small wins embed in your daily rituals they soon become habits, you begin to be consistent with them before you know it you have an effortless morning routine.

To start you might need motivation and inspiration find what works for you.

This might be a podcaster or youtuber maybe affirmations, we are all different pick one and stick with it.

I use a combination of a certain youtuber for cleaning motivation another for content creation and a podcast for writers block.

Once you have achieved the first milestone that is creating a morning routine you move on to the next part.

Setting your goals this needs a dose of will power and commitment, you don't have to be smarter than the rest you just have to be disciplined than the rest according to Warren Buffett.

Know your strength and weakness

Identify areas you will need to work harder on break them down into small and digestible tasks.

Example I struggle with filming content for my youtube channel, but I know what I want and have a clear vision of it in my mind.

Here is how I simplify it for myself




I pretend I am a director of a movie, then I create a storyboard I make the storyboard so detailed such that anyone can see my vision and idea clearly, also that any person will be able to bring the vision to life through the storyboard. Brainstorm content topic This is where I do my research, read articles listen to podcasts from experts even subscribe for courses.

I visualise movie scenes make them very clear in my head, how the entire video is going to look at the end with every detail thought out precisely.

scribble it down if necessary or find inspiration from different platforms.

I them move on to capturing cinematic videos , bring my vision to life

Cinematic Video are still a difficult task for me, instead of pressuring myself to make it perfect I take photage one scene at a time, even if its not perfect I still post it ( share with an audience) and I try again next time


I hope this example makes you see clearly that it's more important to create and upload rather than be stuck in trying to be perfect, excellence comes with practice.

Just do what you said you would do for yourself do it on every occasion you promised, do this for two months and it becomes a habit.

Now you can perfect the art, rinse and repeat with every goal you set yourself.

before you know it you have mastered discipline and consistency.


Speak up for what you believe in

The following steps I will only expand on very briefly, to build confidence you need to speak up for yourself and others.

Even in difficult situations most people will respect you for this, however in life some people will dislike you no matter what you do, its normal.

Look at it this way the sooner you root out the weeds the greener your grass will be.

Don't let fear stop you from doing anything including standing up for what's right for you and those that don't have a voice.


Create boundaries

Other than build good self esteem, creating boundaries will limit conflict in your life, as people will adjust their behaviour according to the boundaries you set.

You avoid the feeling of being taken advantage of,you are less resentful and feel at peace and safe most times.



Get a mentor

We all learn somethings from other people, so it is always a good idea to get an expert to mirror in your subject area.

Sometimes you will need to invest in this but other times you can pick someone doing well in your field and study them.

Whichever direction you choose to take a mentor is a must they serve as coaches they challenge inspire and keep you focused.


In my opinion these areas are the most important steps to take when beginning to show up for yourself and take your craft and self seriously.
