As we are educated more about the importance of taking care of our wellbeing holistically, selfcare has become an essential part of this routine.

To be honest as much as I love at home pamper session, I much prefer a spa experience, since all i have to do is lie down and leave the work to the experts.

Such laziness on my part gives way to the feeling of slight dread like I have a chore to do when I have to give myself a facial, a full body care routine that involves shaving, scrubbing, manicure and pedicure, haircare if you know you know; that everything mentioned done properly can take the entire day to accomplish.

Now instead of stressing myself out, I don't put pressure to have these things done on a Sunday. This is a day I reserve for doing absolutely nothing unless I feel like it.

Caring for myself is not self indulgence, it's self preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.

To me selfcare is doing whatever it is that will recharge me, that could mean watching amazon prime the whole day, sometimes ironing could be the therapy I need.

Ironing makes me feel organised and well put together, putting away nicely folded clothes and newly washed and ironed bed linen lets me know i have my shit together, my brain knows I am ready for the week and it feels fantastic.

So you see how it can be essential on some sundays, to simply iron while watching confessions of a shopaholic.

Most importantly to me selfcare sundays are about having time to me time alone that allows me to explore me, bring self awareness to myself.

Knowing the art to be solitary is central to the art of loving. When we can be alone, we can be with others without using them as a means of escape.

Once I have checked in with myself emotionally it's time to take care of the physical and here is how the routine goes.

I give myself facials every other day pretty much, so on self care sunday I my attention on other things only if I feel like it, it's the only day in the week where chores are optional.

I forgot to mention a small detail that I am also a full time carer to my son who has severe autism, to take care of myself is to take care of him too.

Plan the week ahead

I get prepare and make accessible everything for the following week.

It's also a habit of mine to recap events of the past week, on Sunday I focus on what went well, the things that need improving are addressed on Friday before the weekend.

This way I start the new week on a positive note.

So how do I plan the week in advance?

I write down the goals then break it down into tasks, the further split the task into digestible chunks of to dos, with an located time blocked for each assignment, this includes a deadline in order of priority.

Then to really set myself up to win " I eat the frog first" taking advantage of my best work hours.

An example of this would be taking pictures for instagram, what do I need camera tripod lighting.

Tasks make sure camera battery is fully charged, be clear where the photo shoot is going to happen, outfits being worn etc.

Also have an idea what I want the images to look like and achieve after I have posted them on social media.

The rest of the day is open to just lounge and enjoy time with family either via facetime, whatsapp or in person.

How do you make time for yourself and what is really important to you on these days?
