I intend to keep my braids in for 2-3 months so in-between I will defiantly need to wash it of-course.
Thank goodness it's nearly spring so I can let my hair air dry by walking outside.
Otherwise the temptation to use heat would be too great.
Why am I leaving the braids in for so long?
As I already talked about in the previous post I am trying to do the least amount of manipulation with my hair this time around in order to retain as much length as possible by minimising breakage.
Before iI started this new routine I used to wash my hair weekly, and blow dry it after, "I know rolling my eyes too." This did not help with my goal which was to retain my hair health and length.
To remedy this here is the plan.
I will wash my hair twice a month, using the most gentle products I can find.
This first wash I am using castor oil as a pre poo, then washing it off using a normal shampoo.
I will deep condition my hair as usual keeping the conditioner in for anything between half an hour to two hours my hair needs this if I can I will also use heat for penetration.
Because I am wearing braids my moisturising routine is going to be different using mainly water and oil based products.

A little bit about my hair so you can compare against your own.
I have what is called high porosity hair, this hair type is extremely difficult to moisturise, though it readily absorbs moisture but looses it just as fast
it is always looking dry and dull no matter what I do, it tends to be easily tangled and extremely frizzy.
To test your own hair porosity do the following
Take a couple of strands off your hair and drop them into a bowl of water.
Let them sit in the bowl for about two to four minutes.
Observe your hair,
If you hair is floating in the water, you have low porosity.
If your hair is sinking you have high porosity and if it floats in the middle you have medium hair porosity.
The key points I am going to make sure I do are
Use a gentle but clarifying shampoo
Use a deep conditioner leave it on for 20 minutes while I shower.
If I didn't have braids I would use the greenhouse method to retain extra moisture.
Finally grease my scalp and use light oils for the hair examples of light oils are grape-seed, sweet almond oil and or argan oil
So what is the green house method in 4c haircare
This is a method used to deeply moisturise dry hair, using water oil and natural butter.
We all know that water is hydrating however, it evaporates very quickly so oils help to seal it within the hair shaft so it can dry much slower allowing it to be more beneficial to the hair.
Shower cap
Misting bottle
The rest of the products used in the video are listed below.
To use the greenhouse method on days after hair wash I spray water mixed with water all over my hair.
Wear a shower cap and my satin bonnet then go to sleep, I am not worried about shrinkage because I have braids.
If I was wearing my natural hair I would style the hair in a low manipulation style that would take me a couple of days before it needs touch up.
How do you wash your hair when you are rocking a protective style such as braids if you was it at all.
