Not washing your face properly in the morning could be costing you that dewy glow.
Washing your face is not a 15 second task that can easily be executed after a night out with some friends, to the experienced DIY facialist; it goes without saying that skin washing is a task to be taken seriously if dewy plumpy skin is on your agenda.
It could be the single most important part of the entire routine.
60 seconds is the time limit set on how long you should be massaging the dirt and grime off your face, the old school splash and dash doesn't cut it any more partially because we have been exposed to a bit of skincare education.
Furthermore we are well aware of the effects of the environmental pollutants on our skin, especially for city dwellers.
The jury is still out though!
In some instances, you might come across some who will tell you washing your face in the morning is not necessary.
What is agreed upon by most dermatologist is over washing your face can lead to irritation and lack of moisture.
However, cleansers have become very sophisticated so much so that twice a day cleansing shouldn't have a negative impact on the health of your skin.
We love the Rose and avocado cleansing balm by Netsai Beauty all natural no bells or whistles just a gentle exfoliating cleanser.
Another favorite as a second cleanse is the epara cleaning lotion or if you are on a budget the cetaphil gentle skin cleanser.
Tip:
Wash your face every morning no matter what your skin type is! We all sweat and shed skin at night make sure you don't carry all that overnight residue with you throughout your day. Be sure to start your morning skincare ritual with integrity before applying your luxurious potions start with a clean canvas.
Here’s how to cleanse AM & PM without irritating your skin:
Find two cleansers suited to your skin type avoid overly fragranced, harsh preservatives and harsh foaming detergents in your facial cleansers.
Everyone can use an oil or balm cleanser as a first cleanse
Below are suggestions for second cleansers
For dry and or mature skin types use cream cleanser
For oily skin types use gel cleanser
For sensitive skin types use a very gentle cream or gel cleanser
Normal skin types you are the lucky ones but still remember to treat your skin like silk to avoid sensitisation.
Pick your cleansers according to your age if you have this skin type. Everyone can use an oil or balm cleanser as their first cleanse as previously mentioned
For your second cleanse;
In your 20 and 30’s use a gentle gel cleanser.
In your late 30’s to 40 use a cream cleanser.
Over 40 use a hydrating gentle cleanser look out for ingredients like glycerin aloe vera, shea butter, ginseng or hylaronic acid.
2. To thoroughly remove makeup or sunscreen use your hands or a face cloth no need for cleansing brushes etc.
3. Make sure you are double cleansing at night by using the balm or oil cleanser first to take the day off, then wash your face further with your second cleanser.
4. Try and cleanse your skin for at least 60 seconds on your second wash to remove all the dirt and grime.
5. Avoid toners with alcohol
6. Keep the rest of your routine simple stick to what your skin needs.
